Winter?

I know I live in the South and I know it is generally warmer here than in many other parts of the country, but it's supposed to be Winter and we have barely seen a dip in the temperatures.  Having grown up in upstate NY, I'm all too familiar with the long, tortuous winters that drop into that area around Halloween and often stay until well after Easter.  Down here, Winter usually means cooler temps too.  Thankfully, we are usually spared the snow, but the temperatures often drop below freezing at night.  This year though, we have seen exactly 2 days of winter-like weather.  Last week we had two consecutive days where the temperature dipped into the 20s at night and got only into the low-50s during the day.

If I were conversing with someone from my hometown, this would normally be where they would stop me and say something like, "low-50s?!?  That's not cold!  That's a beautiful spring day up here!"  I know, I know.  But even they are having a pretty mild winter.  Last year was a brutal winter for them, but this year they have seen very little snow and unusually higher-than-normal temperatures.

The thing is: I kind of like it cold.  At least for a little while.  I don't have any desire to go back to a 6 month winter, but I like to break out my sweaters and heavy coat for a few weeks every year.  This morning, when I went for my run, I wore shorts and a short sleeved shirt.  That's how warm it is!

I probably shouldn't be complaining about this.  We've still got a couple months left of Winter and a lot can happen in a that time. Last year we had snow on Valentines day in Savannah!  Maybe Winter decided to be fashionably late this year.  I'm keeping a lookout for it.
