Happy Holidays

When I wish you Happy Holiday, I'm wishing you happiness....during the holiday season.  I'm not pissing your mouth.  I'm not taking a dump on your best suit.  I'm not even wishing ill will.

Wishing happiness to another person used to be a nice thing to do.  It used to be received with gratitude and perhaps a return of the same sentiment.  In the past few years, it seems that people get upset even when GOOD THINGS are being wished upon them!  Two times in the past week I have heard someone complaining about being wished Happy Holidays. They were of the opinion that only Merry Christmas should ever be uttered and it should be assumed that all people celebrate the same holiday.

I don't like to assume that everyone celebrates the same holiday.  There are several holidays that all fall in the November/December/January time frame.  I'm not so arrogant to think that people are only celebrating the same things I am.  So, I choose to say Happy Holidays.  I say it a lot.  It's not a slight.  Or an insult.  It's warm wishes, take it as such.

In fact, I will even eschew my atheist tendencies and not get upset when you say you want to "keep the Christ in Christmas" if you agree to let me keep the "happy" in "Happy Holidays"
