Turkey Trot Weekend

Guess who ran a 5K on Saturday and came in first place in his age group.  Me!

This was a new race for me.  It was the 10th annual race, but I don't ever recall seeing it advertised in previous years.  I didn't plan on actually racing the event so much as just running it.  I wanted (and needed) to run and a 5K seemed like a nice distance given the fact that the marathon was 2 weeks ago and the 10K bridge run in 2 weeks from now.  The plan was to just run it.  I wasn't going to worry about finishing with a good time, just run for fun and enjoy the scenery.

The scenery was lovely.  I have never been to Isle of Hope before.  It's just a suburb of Savannah, but it's a pretty one.  Part of the race was along Bluff Drive.  I had no idea that road even existed, but I will definitely be back.  It was stunning, especially at that hour of the morning.

I ran harder than I planned to, but I wasn't racing.  I finished in 23:40, which is not my best 5K time at all, but I was happy with it.  I was even happier when I found out that I placed first in my age group!

The rest of the weekend was spent running errands and sprawling on the couch.  We're getting ready for Thanksgiving.  Our friend Janice is coming to town for the long weekend and we plan to eat and drink and sing like mad.  The karaoke machine is fired up and ready.  The turkey is thawing in the fridge.  I'll make a beer run before Wed and we'll be all set.  I've missed my karaoke buddy and can't wait to belt out of a few songs while we're belting back a few drinks!
